handprinting

Some friends of mine are getting married tomorrow and I've made them some hand printed and sewn linen napkins. This design is from Lena Corwin's book  "Printing by Hand", which I LOVE. I made bed linen using the pattern a couple of years ago and then haven't done any printing since, so it was a nice little return to it this week. I am so getting my creative mojo back.
I'm tempted to enter Leslie Keating's handprinted fabric swap but I'm getting so into the quilts that I don't really want to be diverting my creative energies elsewhere at the moment (apart of course from wedding gifts!) Baby quilt #2 is almost done - stay tuned for photos.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Wow. Look at this amazing handmade whale. How awesome is that. I found this on Pinterest and followed the link to a tutorial on this BLOG. Not in English but enough great photos to have a crack at it. I've got three months till the poppet turns one...

baby quilt

wow. I had forgotten how good it feels to be creative. These last couple of weeks - during minutes snatched here and there - I've been rummaging through fabrics, measuring and cutting, machine and hand sewing and it feels GOOD.
And I've completed a little baby blanket - the first of a few methinks. It's a simple design but I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The photos don't quite capture it, but you get the idea...

getting my craft on

SO.
After 8 months, I'm getting crafty again. Leo is now (thank god) having better naps during the day and is actually staying asleep once he goes to bed at night (believe me, sleep has not always been our friend in this house). So finally I am actually able to get some things done other than just washing the dishes and getting dinner ready.
I had a slight meltdown recently which I realised was due to the lack of having any real time to myself and the lack of any creative outlet. And so, I am now making time. While Leo naps or when he goes to bed, I am getting my craft on and producing something. Baby quilts in fact. I may even have myself a stall at a Christmas market come december, just as motivation. But for now it just feels good to be doing something that's not baby related.

And as an added bonus, what do you know, measuring tapes make good toys...

cathedral window quilt... c'est finit!

Many hours of hand stitchin' in front of DVDs has culminated in this little baby. hard to get a good photo but you get the idea. I can't wait to see the little one snuggled up in it. or on it. or under it.
And the Christmas 'tree' is up!
